Countless Cities, the Biennial of the Cities of the World

Countless Cities, the Biennial of the Cities of the World, is a project founded by Farm Cultural Park in 2018.  Since then, this project aims to fight political injustices and promote cultural diplomacy by presenting the cities of the world from a unique lens. Since its inception, the biennial has attracted several hundred thousand visitors to Sicily every two years. This event promotes intercultural understanding and dialogue between different urban communities, breaking down barriers and prejudices. It also strengthens networks and collaborations between municipalities, diplomatic missions, cultural institutions, artists, organizations, and research institutes globally. The biennial has become a significant attraction for tourists and visitors interested in culture and the future of cities, generating important economic benefits for Favara and, more recently, Mazzarino, contributing to their international visibility.

Ring Beyond Borders' Participation

Starting this year, the fourth edition of the Biennale of the Cities of the World is enriched by a collaboration with Ring Beyond Borders through a research project titled “Mapping a Fractured World”, coordinated by Carla Bartoli in collaboration with Frances Carlson, Beatrice Baldi, Lena Ciganer Albeniz, Laura Ridoux, Davide Russello, and Ines Billeaud. The project explores the dynamics of contemporary global conflicts—from wars between nations to ethnic tensions and civil unrest.

What is Ring?

Our Mission for Unity, Peace, and Migration Justice

Ring, beyond borders, is an international association born with the aim of promoting cultural integration, information, and the analysis/design of inclusive policies with a focus on immigration and global conflicts.

On-site activities

With Ring, we commit to promoting urban regeneration projects for spaces designated for migrant accommodation. Through workshops involving local residents and young foreigners, we aim to foster cultural exchange and valorize diversity. Simultaneously, using tools such as art, work, and research, we want to promote mutual education among people among different backgrounds. Through strong empathy and precious values, we engage in organizing workshops focused on listening and moral support.

Analysis and research activities

We are aware of the many existing policies aimed at protecting migrants and preventing conflicts. Unfortunately, these policies do not always prove to be efficient. Through an analysis of international law, data released by institutions, and treaties signed in the past, we aim for a deeper understanding of resolutions aimed at improving the global situation. With Ring, we want to dive into a research project that allows us to analyze these policies and envision more inclusive policies to apply in our territory. With hard work and experience, we aspire to have a greater impact on national and European policies.

Sharing information for education and awareness

The Internet and social media have shaped our generation. Recognizing these as powerful tools in shaping our viewpoints, we intend to use them as a source of information. Today, it is challenging to obtain accurate information from reliable sources without encountering false news and situations of polarization. For this reason, Ring is committed to playing a constant role in sharing truthful and objective content. Considering socio-economic situations and history, we want to inform our readers about current global conflicts and migrations. Through interviews, live streams, articles, and explanations, we aim to present ourselves as a secure and reliable source for curious and motivated young individuals who want to contribute to positive change.

Why “Ring” beyond borders?

The idea behind the name "Ring" stems from two main reasons.

1

2

The first is linked to the fact that both migrating peoples and those living in conflict situations are often given many promises, which in most cases are never fulfilled. With a “Ring,” we want to make a promise to these peoples: we will do our best to promote the value of diversity and cultural exchange, defend human rights, and educate on the topics of global conflicts and migration.
The second reason is connected to the shape of the ring, which resembles the circular form of the world. With this name, we want to emphasize our commitment to maintaining an international perspective regarding these phenomena. This also gives rise to the idea of Beyond Borders.
